Alice Bag of legendary early L.A. punk band, "The Bags," has a great website that anyone interested in the history of the Los Angeles punk scene should visit. The site features Alice's blog and plenty of rare and classic photos from L.A.'s bygone era.
They call themselves the "archeologists of punk," which is a good name for this record company that is re-issuing alot of long-lost classic KBD-era punk.

Going Underground: American Punk 1979-1992
Coast-to-coast photographer, writer and fellow old-schooler George Hurchalla takes a look at punk nationwide between 1979 and 1992 in his new book, Going Underground: American Punk 1979-1992. The book focuses on the DIY aspects of punk and features alot of untold stories from Chicago, Philadelphia, Austin, Lawrence, Annapolis, Iowa, Cincinnati, Florida, and Los Angeles.
Photgrapher from the early days of the punk scene. Her photos are incredible and includes bands and performers such as Iggy Pop, Germs, Avengers, Ramones, Runaways and Blondie to name a few. The A to Z of punk royalty can be found here.
Maddog Carla was a veteran of the early punk rock scene in Los Angeles, and is best known for being a member of the early L.A. punk band, The Controllers. Later, in the 1990s she played in Skull Control, a combination of members of the Skulls and Controllers.
Mr. Bali Hai, who runs a blog site known as Eye of the Goof, attended high school in Whittier, California with three of the original staff writers of Flipside Fanzine, X-8, Tory and Larry Lash. Today he travels the world and maintains a very interesting blog site, mixing travel stories with tiki, lounge, and punk items of interest.
This Italian punk band was active from late 1977 through late 1980. The band was from the town of Padova, in the Veneto region, of northeast Italy. Two of the members went on to form the band SBA-NDO in 1981. Very nicely done website by Francesco, which allows you to visit the site in English. There's MP3s, photos, lyrics, and band history. Early punk band which played around in the Philadelphia area in the early 1980s. This site gives their story and has some great pictures of the band, flyers, lyrics, etc., along with an album's worth of audio.
Former L.A. scenester Gilbert Estrada who's former haunts included the Cathay De Grande, Olympic Auditorium, Oki Dogs and Raji's is now based in Las Vegas. His website chronicles the current Las Vegas scene with interviews, show reviews and a calendar of coming events.
This is a punk rock record label and mail order service. But in addition to that, this small label is also providing the chance to view old zines (for free/non-profit) in PDF format. Almost all the early issues of Flipside (which I'd hoped to put up here) are now up for public viewing (yes, with our permission), as well as other early zines. Pooch was perhaps one of the longest continuing staff writers for Flipside. Pooch is still very much involved in the music scene playing with his band the Condors.
This is THE site if you are seriously interested in doing research on the early days of L.A. punk. The author of the site is putting together an extensive gig database which will document L.A. shows he attended between 1977 and April 1980. Nice overview of the early Hollywood club scene prior to the days of punk.
Early Los Angeles scenester Theresa Kereakes who's photos appeared on the record sleeves of The Germs "Forming" and in magazines such as Lobotomy and Rolling Stones, has put together a nice retrospective on the early punk scene, with great vintage photos and personal insights on various aspects of punk rock then and now.
Humberto's blog about early punk rock. Has an entry (June 10th 2008) about Flipside Fanzine and links to some other punk rock blogs. The blog is written in Portuguese, so this link is really for our international readers.
Very slick, well-done website, with more of a globalist perspective featuring extensive sections on both European and American bands. The band sections contain profiles and pictures of each band, often with downloadable MP3 files. Site also contains a flyers section and forum.
MXV, a long-time avid collector of punk vinyl, is sharing his vast collection with at this site through downloadable MP3 files. Record selections change frequently. There's usually a nice recap of the featured band as well as an area where you can post comments..
David Levine (Dave Rat) was a high school buddy who went on to provide sound for alot of early 80s punk shows. Today he runs the company Rat Sound, manufacturing sound equipment and providing sound for some pretty big shows. There's a database of early L.A. area gigs taken right from his company log books.
Raw Pogo on the Scaffold Punk Zine Archives
The title for this 1990s-era Philadelphia-based fanzine actually came from a Swiss scene report in an early issue of Flipside. The writer was inspired by Flipside's early accounts of the L.A. and H.B. scenes to create "steams of consciousness," ie., literary collages of vintage L.A. and H.B. punk culture. You can check out some of these Flipside-inspired writings at his website.
Robert of Rockinbones Video is a young film maker who was largely inspired by the early Flipside Videos. He has made a couple modern video fanzines featuring bands of yesteryear as well as current offerings. The videos are available for purchase at the website.
Francesco's second website creation devoted to the Italian band, SBA-NDO. The Padova-based band was active from 1981 through 1984. This site is also available in English and features MP3s, photos, lyrics, as well as band history.

Flipside's Own X-8 is co-founder of Flipside Fanzine, designer of the Flipside Logo and several early Flipside Fanzine covers. X-8 has always been an artist and continues to create and exhibit his works. X-8 even has a store at the website; go shopping with X-8!
