Welcome to the Flyer
Gallery. The Flyers shown here are dated and verified using a perpetual
calendar. This gallery begins with 1980 and goes through 1984,
with an "unknown date" section (help me date these flyers!). Unfortunately, I have only a few flyers that are pre-1980 in my possession.
Those are the Elks Lodge and Masque Xmas party flyers which appear on the gig database home page, if you want to take a look at those.
In the future, I will be adding flyers from the later 1980s. If you are interested in dating your collection of flyers
or doing other research, the best place to start is with the gig database.
98% of gig dates for these flyers have already been entered into the gig
database (its an ongoing project, since I've just added alot of new flyers).
As a last resort, come to the flyers page. Also, the gig
database is much more comprehensive than what is up here in the
gallery. The gallery is only a representation of some of the many
hundreds of shows categorized in the database.
About 95% of the collection is Los Angeles area-based shows. I've got some out of town flyers here too, but only a dozen or so. They go as far east as San Bernardino and Riverside and as far north and south as San Diego and Sacramento. There are even a few flyers from the east coast. Also keep in mind that although a flyer exists for a show, that doesn't necessarily mean the show occurred. It is entirely possible considering the precariousness of the punk scene that many shows got cancelled, rescheduled or clubs closed before a show could even occur. When I've become aware of this, I've posted a note in the database next to the gig listing (not here under the flyer!). These flyers are purely for your visual enjoyment. Many thanks to Jay & Mary Thurston and Mike Alessi for their gracious donations to this section of the website. A big thank you also to Michael Colacion for his generous donation to the 1980/1981 section. If you are interested in donating flyers, just send me your scanned Jpegs. Or if you don't have a scanner, but can provide me the dates off your flyers, I can certainly use that information for the gig database and would be very grateful. I want this website to be an ongoing and collabrative process with you, the visitor. The Flipside archives are gone and all we have is what I can scramble together. I credit all donations on the page where the donation appears, and will note your donation here on the home page. All flyers are watermarked to prevent theft.
