Featured Band Section

[ Portal Home ]

Welcome to the all new "featured band" section. This was actually inspired by the band you see pictured below, The Tiki Gods. If you were in a punk band between 1977 and 1984 but never made it (or even if you did) into the pages of Flipside, I'd like to feature a picture of your band and share your story here. Just contact me via email. As this section is updated with new bands, the "retired" bands and photos will be moved to an archive page so visitors can always find your band and see your profile.
The Tiki Gods
According to Joseph Amster: "The Tiki Gods, played some clubs in L.A. from 1979-1980. "We mostly played The Cuckoo's Nest, but also played the Hong Kong Cafe and Club Nugget in Long Beach. No one ever really wrote about us, and we didn't play more than 8-10 gigs. We were based in OC; Costa Mesa if you had to name a city, but we lived in various places. Although we had a tiki name, we didn't have a tiki theme. Our influences were X, Talking Heads, Buzzcocks, Lou Reed, and Magazine."

Joseph continues: "Darren played bass when I sang because I couldn't play and sing at the same time. After disbanding, we went our own ways. Darren moved to New York for a while. Lisa went on to an acting career. She has acted in many cities and in Europe. She most recently appeared in Genet's "The Blacks" at the Evidence Room. Greg finished his degree at UCI and is now a vice president at Citibank in New York, working with computer networking. I became a magazine editor. Mark Fullerton went on to become a founding member of Mind Over Four. Mark now works with Star Wagons in Hollywood. Darren and I are starting to work together on music again."

The Tiki Gods, L to R:
